Our Research Fellow, Oula Puonti, was recently interviewed by the Lundbeck Foundation about some of the work he contributed to during his time at the Martinos Center in Boston.

In short, the work introduces NextBrain, a new whole-brain atlas comprising 333 distinct structures, built using a combination of ex vivo MRI scanning and histology.
NextBrain has been integrated into an automated tool that can segment these areas in both ex vivo and in vivo MRI scans, offering an unprecedented level of anatomical detail.
The project website provides access to the underlying data used to build the atlas and the segmentation tool, which is integrated into FreeSurfer: https://github-pages.ucl.ac.uk/NextBrain/
This ambitious project was led by Juan Eugenio Iglesias and involved contributions from 24 researchers across Europe and the US.
