The research group is working with a general interest in development and plasticity of the brain, and its relation to cognitive and othe psychological factors. Projects that are taking place within this group ranges from basic learning models, to brain maturation, and to the effects of sensory deprivation on functional and morphological outcomes.
One project, led by Prof. Terry L. Jernigan, studies how brain maturation influences cognitive and psychological factors in each individual. The group applies a comprehensive battery of MR imaging techniques in combination with psychological, paedagogical and cognitive assessment. The project is performed in collaboration with Learning Lab Denmark and the National Centre for Reading . Information på dansk her (PDF dokument).
Another project headed by Prof. Maurice Ptito studies the effects of congenital blindness on sensory, functional and morphological neural changes. In addition, the group has developed a device that provides visual input from a camera to the tongue, which enables blind subjects to navigate using visual cues alone. The group is currently studying the functional and morphological effects of this kind of training.
