Re-advertisement: PostDoc position on advanced MRI method development in the ERC funded C-MORPH project

We are seeking a dedicated PostDoc candidate (2-year period) to work on developing future biomarkers highly specific to individual pathologies in neuroinflammation and degeneration.

Following up on our recent advancements in diffusion MRI, the PostDoc will help us push the precision of tomorrow’s scanning methods. Work will span from computer simulations to implementation and validation of optimal sampling strategies for novel hybrid methods embracing diffusion, relaxation and spectroscopic encoding techniques. The experimental work will primarily be done on a state of the art pre-clinical MRI system but we aim at translating the methods to humans towards the end of the project.

The PostDoc will be part of the newly initiated C-MORPH project funded by the European Research Council (ERC) and headed by senior researcher Henrik Lundell. As part of an interdisciplinary team, the PostDoc will have the possibility to bring new ideas to exciting applications.

About us:

The Danish Research Centre for Magnetic Resonance (DRCMR) is one of the leading research centers for biomedical MRI in Europe (www.drcmr.dk). Our mission is to triangulate MR physics, basic physiology, and clinical research. Approximately 70 researchers from a diverse range of disciplines are currently pursuing basic and clinically applied MR research with a focus on structural, functional, and metabolic MRI of the human brain and its disorders. The DRCMR is embedded in the Center for Functional and Diagnostic Imaging and Research, a large diagnostic imaging department including all biomedical imaging modalities at Copenhagen University Hospital Hvidovre. DRCMR has close interaction with clinicians and radiologists and a state-of-the-art MR-research infrastructure, which includes a pre-clinical 7T MR scanner, six whole-body MR scanners (one 7T, three 3T and two 1.5T scanners), a neuropsychology laboratory, an EEG laboratory, and two laboratories for non-invasive brain stimulation. The basic research project will be centered around the newly installed 7T Bruker BioSpec MRI system, fully equipped with powerful gradients and a cryo-coil system and lab facilities for handling animals and biological samples.

The ideal candidate

Should be an internationally oriented team player with:

  •  A PhD degree or corresponding qualification in biomedical engineering or physics.
  •  A strong documented background in MR physics, preferably with experience in sequence development, diffusion and/or other contrast mechnisms, spectroscopy and/or novel imaging strategies.
  •  Proficiency in computer programming (e.g. Matlab, Python), statistics, and experimental MRI work.
  •  Proficiency regarding MRI scanner software preferably for Bruker MRI and related Paravision software.
  •  High motivation and ability to efficiently structure his / her own work while at the same time being willing to contribute to the project team.
  •  Fluency in English (verbal and writing) and good communications skills. Danish language knowledge is not a requirement. 

Your tasks:

  •  Design, simulate and implement new MRI sequences with a focus on diffusion, relaxation and spectroscopic encoding techniques.
  •  Validate methods through experiments on phantoms and biological samples.
  •  Help with translation to preclinical in vivo applications.
  •  Advance the field of sequence design for hybrid diffusion MRI techniques through your own research and push the results to new applications.
  •  Engage in supervision of BSc, MSc and PhD students, knowledge dissemination and publishing in internationally recognized scientific journals.

Your position:

The candidate will be employed for a two-year period starting as soon as possible (preferably September 2019) at the Danish Research Centre for Magnetic Resonance where he/she will be part of the C-MORPH project group.

Salary and Terms of Employment 

Salary, pension and terms of employment are in accordance with the agreement between the Danish Regions (Danske Regioner) and the relevant professional organization. The salary depends on background education and seniority. Further supplements can be negotiated. Note that candidates coming from abroad may be eligible for tax reductions.
